Camponotus (Tanaemyrmex) fedtschenkoi Mayr

return to listIran list{link to the Hymenoptera Name Server} Type location Uzbekistan/Tajikistan (Camponotus fedtschenkoi nov. sp., Mayr, 1877: 3, all forms) Sarafschan Valley (Zarafshan Valley), Tashkent (location wrongly listed as Kazakhstan on Antweb); type male on Antweb (August 2017).

Mayr's (1877) description is at - {original description}. Mayr's types apart from a male at https://www.antweb.org/specimenImages.do?name=casent0915677, appear to have been lost. He gave the colour, however, as shiny fuscus (fuscous) which implies a dark brown; the minor with a reddish (rufo-testaceous) head; also with little pilosity but copious short oblique hairs on the scape and legs; overll subtly coriaceous; the mandibles with 6-7 teeth.

The two FoCol specimens shown below seem not to match Mayr's colours but do have the copious hairs on the scapes and legs. The Iran specimen appears not to match Mayr's definition. In his key, Radchenko (1997) had : "47 (54) Numerous erect hairs present over the whole body, so that cheeks, genae and occipital angles bear hairs" .. "54. Erect hairs on head more sparse, present on cheeks; genae and occipital angles, without hairs; body yellow of various tints". This does not seem to match what Mayr wrote.
