return to key {link to the Hymenoptera Name Server} Type location South Africa (Cremastogaster cicatriculosa nov. sp., Roger, 1863a: 207, worker; Mayr, 1866b: 901, queen) - no images on Antweb (December 2014).

Worker and queen described (see Bolton, 1995) .

Roger's (1863a) description is at {original description}. Mayr's (1866b) description of the queen is at {original description}.

Wheeler (1922) included a record, the Mayr (1866b) report, from Sierra Leone but without any details. Arnold (1920a), however, did not consider it in his review of South African species. Possibly, the "Süd-Afrika" of Roger simply referred to somewhere south of the Sahara, other species in his paper, e.g. Cr. senegalensis, were collected in Senegal by Sichel.
