Crematogaster (Crematogaster) goliathula Forel - new status

return to key {link to the Hymenoptera Name Server} Type location Angola (Crematogaster senegalensis Rog. r. goliathula n. stirps, Forel, 1922: 93, worker) no collection details - see below.

Forel's (1922) description is at {original description}.

It does seem that goliathula is a different species, with a fresh specimen from Cameroun, of the forest zone (?), with shorter, thicker funiculi and a three-segmented club; a flat pronotum, centrally even slightly concave; longer more upwardly angled propodeal spines; a distinct anterior ventral tooth on the petiole, etc.

{Crematogaster goliathuse}The photomontage of the goliathula type worker is collated from http://www.antweb.org/specimen.do?name=casent0908495.

The styles of writing on the labels are unlike any on other Forel specimens. Comparing with othet labels the "Cr" on the main label matches that of Mayr on the type of Crematogaster africana and the (Mayr, 1862) reported specimens e.g. Camponotus fulvopilosus from Benguela, Angola,

Crematogaster goliathula workerThe photomontage is of a worker from Cameroun; from Batcham; 3.ix.2008 ; coll. A Fotso Kuate (fk unmounted 23).

This appears to match the goliathula type other than by being a minor worker.
