Dorylus (Anomma) erraticus (F. Smith)

return to key {link to the Hymenoptera Name Server} Type locality Guinea (Anomma erratica, F.Smith, 1865: 71, worker wrongly given as from "New Guinea"; location correction by Wilson, 1964a: 443; in Dorylus by Emery, 1910b: 15; in Anomma by Donisthorpe, 1932c: 473) - see below; worker only known (see Bolton (1995) .

Smith's (1865) very brief description is at {original description}.
Smith, F. 1865. Descriptions of new species of hymenopterous insects from the Islands of Sumatra, Sula, Gilolo, Salwatty, and New Guinea, collected by Mr. A. R. Wallace. J. Proc. Linn. Soc. London Zool., 8, 61-94.

As a single small (ca 4.3 mm) worker there is no possibility for modern species allocation.

Dorylus (Anomma) erraticusThe photomontage of the holotype worker is collated from - http://www.antweb.org/specimen.do?name=casent0901447

With the availability of the Antweb photographs, I feel quite sure that this is no more than a media worker of Dorylus (Anomma) kohli of which I show specimens from Guinea. If correct this could be argued as the senior synonym of kohli.
