Hypoponera myrmicariae (Wasmann)

return to key {link to the Hymenoptera Name Server} Type location Cameroun (Ponera myrmicariae nov. spec., Wasmann, 1918b: 144, worker) collected at Soppo by v. Rothkirch, 1912
worker only described (new combination in Hypoponera, in Bolton, 1995) .

Bolton & Fisher (2011: 87) place it as a junior synonym of Hypoponera coeca.

Wasmann's (1918b) description is at {original description}.

WORKER (after Bernard, 1952) - TL 1.8-2.0 mm; dorsal profile of thorax rectilinear, with no lateral waisting between mesonotum and propodeum.

Bernard (1952) thought this may be no more than a race of Hypoponera coeca, although myrmicariae specimens were slightly smaller and distinguished as above.

{Hypoponera myrmicariae}The photomontage of the type worker is collated from http://www.antweb.org/specimen.do?name=casent2017335.
