return to key {link to the Hymenoptera Name Server} Type location South Africa (Monomorium subopacum Sm. race australe n. stirps, Emery, 1886: 363, worker & queen) - see http://www.antweb.org/specimenImages.do?name=casent0904584
also laeviceps (Monomorium subopacum Sm. race australe Emery laeviceps n. var., Emery, 1886: 364, worker) from South Africa - see below
worker and queen only described (see Bolton, 1995) .

Emery's (1886) description is at {original description}. Arnold (1916: 225) gave a description based on a specimen determined by Forel - this is at {original description}. Later he found that appeared to be incorrect so Arnold (1926) gave a translation of a description by Santschi - this is at {original description}. However Bolton (1987: 368) pointed out that the latter was actually a good description of havilandi. Emery's description was of a small species, TL 2.0-2.5, and Bolton (1987: 337) gives a correct description; this is at {original description}.

WORKER - TL 2.4 mm (Bolton, 1987: 337, not illustrated).
