Forel's (1913a) description is at {original description}. Arnold (1916: 220) gave a translation plus that of the queen, this is at {original description}. Note - Arnold (1916) gave what appears to be a wrong size for the worker. Santschi's (1928f) description of serenum is at {original description}. Bolton's modern description (1987) is at {original description}.

Notes TL = ca 2.5 mm; there is no sign on this, on that below, nor on the serenum worker, of the "two pairs of standing hairs" on the dorsum of the head, mentioned by Bolton (1987).
