The variations between Plots is shown by these three examples of the 1975 season-long survey (names revised 2007). The situation with a dominant, or dominants, present is revealed by Plots C and G, but Plot N vividly revealed how diverse a non-dominated situation can be.
The cocoa trees are denoted by the vertical black bars, the shorter bars being immature trees, mostly due to re-planting. The coloured lines indicate trees forming the regular territory of a particular dominant. Some territories are linked across the canopy and some through ground routes, this should be clear from the figures.
