Mesoponera scolopax (Emery)

return to key {link to the Hymenoptera Name Server} Type location Cameroun (Ponera scolopax n. sp., Emery, 1899e: 473, worker; in Euponera (Mesoponera) Emery, 1901a: 46; in Pachycondyla Bolton, 1995: 307; new placement by Schmidt & Shattuck, 2014: 111) location not given, collector Conradt
worker only described (see Bolton, 1995) .

Emery's (1899e) description is at {original description}.

Wheeler (1922) had it (as Euponera scolopax) also from Zaïre.

{Pachycondyla scolopax}The photomontage of the purported type worker is collated from http://www.antweb.org/specimen.do?name=casent0903931.

It is difficult to know what to make of these images. Emery (1899e) stated he saw a single example.  The upper specimen appears to match the Emery description but then does not have the long, slender, legs that he described.
