all forms described .

Note: It appears Terayama (1999: 61) raised Paratrechina amia Forel to species.

Forel's (1886f) description is at {original description}; his (1894c) description of bengalensis, with extracts of a key to Indian Prenolepis, is at {original description}; his (1907g) description of ngasiyana, which with TL = 2 mm seems too small to be other than a separate species, type TL = 2.5-3.0 mm; and report of the type from Pemba Island, is at {original description}. Mayr's (1870a) illustrated description of Prenolepis nodifera is at {original description}; this is listed under Nylanderia by LaPolla et al. (2010) but Mayr noted the mandibles as punctate and subtly striated, a separation feature in the LaPolla key; the illustration also looks closer to Prenolepis and the comment by Mayr that the alitrunk was narrowed strongly between the mesonotum and the raised strongly convex metanotum (propodeum).

Reported from Pemba Island, Tanzania, by Forel (1907g) - presumably just as a tramp species.

{Paratrechina bourbonica}The photomontage of a worker from Réunion, is collated from http://www.antweb.org/specimen.do?name=casent0101309

Also shown as bourbonica in LaPolla, Hawkes & Fisher (2012). In their key they separate from it P. vaga and P. umbella

1. Dorsal face of propodeum much shorter than declivitous face; in lateral view, propodeum lower than remainder of dorsum, dorsallyangular or gently rounded.

2. More than 10 erect macrosetae [erect hairs] present on each scape.

3. Dark brown colour overall.

4. Having a dense layer of pubescence on the mesopleuron [not very obvious on the type].  The other two species have no or sparse pubescence on the mesopleuron.

They provide no records of either bourbonica or vaga and state they are not are endemic to Africa.

On umbella which they report as a new species from Cameroun and Uganda, they give HW < 0.51 mm HL 0.59-0.61 EL 0.14-0.16 SL 0.62-0.64 PW 0.35-0.38 CI 80-84 EI 23-37 SI 123-130

Head, alitrunk and gaster dark brown, contrasting with yellowish-brown appendages; propodeum profile angular with a short dorsum. [see CASENT0179583]

{Paratrechina bourbonica}The photomontage is of a worker from the Central African Republic; collector P Annoyer (CAR PZ).

All four specimens have the following approximate sizes: HL 0.70, HW 0.60, SL 0.78, EL 0.15, PW 0.40; CI 79, SI 140, EI 28

They are consistently larger than Paratrechina umbella and do not have the contrasting colour of appendages, albeit the scapes and tibia are lighter.

{Paratrechina bourbonica}The photomontage is of a second worker from the Central African Republic.

{Paratrechina bourbonica}The photomontage is of a third worker from the Central African Republic.

{Paratrechina bourbonica}The photomontage is of a fourth worker from the Central African Republic.

{Paratrechina bourbonica}The photomontage is of a relatively large worker from Cameroun; Molyko; A Fotso Kuate (sample 3).

{Paratrechina bourbonica}The photomontage is of a smaller worker from Cameroun; Molyko; A Fotso Kuate (sample 3).

{Paratrechina bourbonica}The photomontage is of a relatively large worker from Sudan; Wad alaieiz; Awatif Omer (2014.09).

{Paratrechina bourbonica}The photomontage is of a smaller worker from from Sudan; Wad alaieiz; Awatif Omer (2014.09).
