The Bananas of Upland East Africa - Toppling due to nematode root damage

Toppled plant due to nematode root damage

Such damage often was not noticed until the mature or near mature plant fell down with total loss of the bunch.

The farmers usually attributed such toppling to the "dudu", Kiswahili for insect, in this case banana weevil.

Seen at Kibeta, Bukoba District, May 1989.
