The Bananas of Upland East Africa - D&E Trial at Katoke |
Demonstration
and evaluation trial at Katoke Training College, Muleba District
The site was some 15 km before Muleba town, at approximately 1280 m (4200 feet) asl, and 45 km from Bukoba. (Tanzania Grid Reference UP551162) The site was flat and in the domestic garden area of the college. Planting was on 21.3.89. When first visited, January 1989, the site had bananas but all were in poor condition. |
|
Evaluation visits An inspection and sub-plot treatment was made on 4.8.89, 20 weeks after planting. The site was in good condition; 1 or 2 = sucker numbers; U = undersized; M = missing; the righthand row in F had been attacked by chickens. A further 3 g a.i. of carbofuran was applied to C2 and FC2 in September 1989. My final visit was on 22.2.90, 47 weeks after planting, when heights and girths were measured. |
