The Bananas of Upland East Africa - FIELD TRIALS PROGRESS AND RESULTS UP TO MAY 1990 |
Table 10 lists the first harvest results from the demonstration and evaluation trials, with bunch characteristics and damage from weevil and nematode infestation. At lbaraizibu the flowering to harvest interval was 17 to 24 weeks, at Kalema the one example was harvested at 17 weeks after flowering. In Treatment F at Kalonge severe nematode related damage to the roots led to the toppling of a plant; whereas in Treatment C2 a single plant, examined because it appeared to be a sterile mutant and had not produced a flower some weeks after reaching a full height, was found to have no nematode or weevil damage. No weevil damage was found on any of the plants examined.
