Deepwater Rice - locations near Faridpur - Faridpur District, Bangladesh

Situated in the lower Ganges floodplain, south of the town of Faridpur. As with other Ganges-Jamuna floodplain sites, the flood water can carry a good deal of silt.

We visited Bhanga area 9-10 June 1982 - farming activity seen including - ploughing	the simple plough of tradition
"laddering"...	..to break up the clods of clay
"hammering" for a final improvement of the tilth
Later we came back at harvest time, 18 October 1982. At Bhanga the dwr was being harvested in fields still under water	with the cut crop being taken to the village by boat
As always, the curious gather to see what we're doing	while going from Faridpur to Rajshahi we had to cross a distributary of the Ganges at Kumakhalighat
