Ettershank (1966) had it as from South Africa; wrongly cited as queen by Bolton (1995: 333).


Santschi's (1928f) note on assigning specimens described by Mayr (1866b: 899; Santschi had it as 1862) as Ph. hostilis is at {original description} - Santschi noted the F Smith specimen of "Atta hostilis" had the soldier at TL 3 mm and the queen as TL 6.2 mm. Mayr's (1866b) description of the "operaria", TL 11 mm; is at {original description}, the specimen was in the Holm Museum.
