males only described. *The specimens in the Santschi (1910g) paper all appear to be from Bamako, Mali, and not modern "Sudan" as listed in Bolton (1995).  Toukoula, however, may be a part of the Burkina Faso town of Sikorla, just across the southern border of Mali. .


Aenictus soudanicusSantschi's (1910g) description is at {original description}. Santschi (1930a: 57) noted that the eyes of this species are always decoloured and whitish, whereas all other species have black eyes. The ventral areas of the first three gastral segments are as brown as the thorax and the median posterior thorax is rust brown.

Also known from Senegal, Saint Louis, collected by Claveau (in Wheeler, 1922).
