{Pyramica membranifera}Emery's (1869b) description is at {original description}. Emery's (1916b) description, in a key, is at {original description}. Forel (1904c) noted santschii n. var. differed from the type primarily by having a more opaque ferruginous red colour, stronger more irregular sculpture on the head, of which the anterior angles formed a near right angle, also the pronotum with a slightly more accentuated margin; two workers from Kairouan, Tunisia, in a nest of Tetramorium caespitum. Bolton's modern description (1983), as Trichoscapa membranifera, is at {original description}.


{Pyramica membranifera}It is a tramp species occurring in many parts of the tropics and warm temperate zones. Bolton (1983: 319, illustrated profile and full-face view) reported examining a worker from Egypt: no. loc. (Min. of Agriculture coll.).

Egypt records - Finzi (1936) - santschii, two queens, one from Meadi (Cairo), 25.ix.1933, the other from Barrage, 12.ix.1933. Bolton (1983) has also "no loc. (Min. of Agriculture coll.)". The Mohamad thesis (1979) had - Barrage, 17.viii., 13.ix.1933 (Coll.Alf.) Barrage, 13.ix.1933 (Coll.Min.) El-Mataryia (Dakahlyia), 26.vi.1975; El-Manzala (Dakahlyia), 24.i.1978; Mit Ghamr (Dakahlyia), 2.ii.1978 (Coll.Ain.)
