return to key {link to the Hymenoptera Name Server} Type locality Zaïre (Camponotus Schoutedeni n. sp., Forel, 1911f: 281, minor worker; 1913a: 146, major worker) collected at Congo da Lemba, by R Mayné; minor & major workers described (see Bolton, 1995) .

Forel's (1913a) description of the major is at {original description}, apparently collected at Redbank, Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) by G. Arnold. Arnold (1924) provided a translation of Forel's (1911f, 1913a) descriptions; this is at {original description}.

Reported also by Santschi (1935), from Kwamouth, vi.1921, collected by Dr Schouteden - Forel (1911f) did not say why he called the species after Schouteden.

{Camponotus schoutedeni minor} The photomontage is of a minor worker from Benin, Bonou, Forêt de Gnanhouizoumè; collector S Tchibozo.

Forel's (1911f) description of the minor (my translation) is
MINOR - TL 3.8-4 mm; similar to lubbocki from Madagascar, with same petiole scale (thick with a superior face) and concave saddle to the propodeum. The thorax is shorter and the promesonotum is a convex hump, especially so on the mesonotum. The head is shorter, only marginally longer than wide, less rectangular, wider posteriorly than anterirorly. The eyes are larger and situated in the posterior one-third (more forward in lubbocki). Mandibles with six teeth. Scape shorter, surpassing the occiput by less than half its length. Mandibles and antennae testaceous; legs brown, rest black and shiny.

{Camponotus schoutedeni}The photomontage is of a minor from Gabon; Pongara National Park, Pointe Wingombé; collector Yves Braet (Gabon 115).

{Camponotus schoutedeni}The photomontage is of a minor from Congo, Réserve de Lésio-Louna, Village Mah; collector Eric Zassi.

{Camponotus schoutedeni}The photomontage is of a minor from Cameroun, Awae II; collector A Fotso Kuate.
