return to listIran list {link to the Hymenoptera Name Server} Type location Iran.

Smaller than all described Cataglyphis. Worker 04: TL ca 3.5 mm, HW 0.70, HL 0.70, EL 0.29, SL 0.97, PW 0.5, CI 100, SI 132.  Worker 18: slightly smaller, scapes missing. Uniformly shiny, dark brown; scapes, mandibles and lower legs yellow-brown. Mandibles striate. Femora with distinctive decumbent minute but stout setae. Legs long and slender.

Similar in size to Cataglyphis emeryi but with much longer scapes, longer legs, larger eyes and a lower, thicker petiole. C. emeryi has HW 0.87, SL 0.81, EL 0.25, SI 93, plus C. emeryi has  noticeable pubescence on the alitrunk. This does share the long forward pointing hairs on the clypeus, which Radchenko (1998) has as a prime separating character, couplet 8, for emeryi from the other dark coloured species with a squamous petiole and a shiny gaster.
