Cataglyphis oasium Menozzi, new status

return to key {link to the Hymenoptera Name Server} Type location Tunisia (Cataglyphis bicolor st. nodus var. oasium n. var., Santschi, 1929b: 46, all forms; noted by Menozzi, 1932c: 95, as Cataglyphis bicolor var. oasium .

Santschi's (1929b) description is at {original description}. Menozzi (1932c) simply listed it as numerous workers found at six locations in Fezzan, Libya, collected by E Zavattari in 1931. Menozzi's report is at {original description}.

Santschi (1929b, my translation) had - close to Cataglyphis savignyi but the alitrunk remains red or part red in workers larger than TL 7 mm (black in savignyi); antennae, legs, and often the sides of the alitrunk a blackish-brown, head and rest of alitrunk dull red; the colour resembles the race laevior but the sculpture of the body and gaster is as Cataglyphis desertorum; the scape is a little narrower than desertorum and the propodeum slightly more convex; from Tunisia, Tozzeur and Kairouan; also from Algeria, Fuguig and Ain Seffra.

{Cataglyphis oasium}Egypt records - none. The photomontage of the type worker is collated from http://www.antweb.org/specimen.do?name=casent0912184.
