Wheeler (1922) also had records of victoriosa
from Zambi, Zaïre, by J. Bequaert.
Collingwood (1985) separated it out from other Saudi
Arabian species by - petiole slightly or not wider than long; head
and alitrunk unicolourous red; petiole spines reduced to tubercles;
body sculpture weak; occiput dull; second funiculus segment shorter
than third. He described it as a pale weakly sculptured species with
very reduced spines, broad head (CI 108) and a narrow petiole, 0.3 X
0.3. He noted the distribution as north east Africa.
Note: Comparison
of the Antweb images and the fresh specimens, below, show that Santschi
"varieties" are simple junior synonyms, with seemingly slight colour
variation. The gloriosa form matches the minor worker from Sudan.
