The Ants of Africa Chapter 5 - Biodiversity 2009 |
Return to Diversity 2009 introduction
Species occurrence sorted by Mali as the main criterion and Sudan as a second separator but excluding the Mali species. Almost all species are from the Congo Basin (woodland/forest) habitat. The top three are ubiquitous savannah/open ground nesting species. The Sudan species are from the south-western forests and mainly from the collecting activities of N A Weber. Towards the bottom are two small clusters of East African/Sahel species, e.g. Platythyrea cribrinodis and Camponotus (Tanaemyrmex) aegyptiacus; with right at the bottom, Crematogaster (Crematogaster) senegalensis and Monomorium abyssinicum. As with so many other species, nothing seems to have been reported about the habitat of Tetramorium cristatum Graph 9 |
