worker and queen only described .

{Lepisiota spinosior}Forel's (1913a) description is at {original description} and Arnold's (1920a) translation with descriptions of the subspecies is at {original description}.

Note: the natalensis type appears fairly uniformly dark red-brown and has numerous erect hairs on the alitrunk (absent on the type and ballaensis) - these characters suggest it may be a separate species. A fresh worker from South Africa matches the type form - see http://www.antweb.org/specimenImages.do?code=casent0235897
