Nigeria specimens (as Bothroponera
silvestrii,
Taylor, 1976: 17). WORKER. TL 5.32 mm, HL 1.18, HW 1.03, SL 0.93, PW
0.81 (in my guide ).
Overall colour very dark red-brown, lighter on extremities. Generally
finely punctate, coarser on gaster, overall with relatively dense
pilosity.
I collected it in Nigeria, from nests in a dead log, in rotting
wood and in the ground under an old tree stump.
Bernard (1952) recorded the Guinea finding of 9
workers at
savanna sample site D, Kéoulenta, at 500 m, and site E, higher up at
Nion (among the crest scrub), plus 3 workers from undefined localities.
He noted the specimens were somewhat different to those from Aburi,
Ghana, being black-brown, with the head and appendages dark red; also
the pronotum was more convex and the petiole hemispherical but almost
square in dorsal view.
