The Bananas of Upland East Africa - D&E Trial at Kayanga

Demonstration and evaluation trial at Kayanga Primary School, Karagwe District

The site was just outside from Kayanga town, at approximately 1640 m (5380 feet) asl.

The site was flat. Planting was on 29.3.89. Some problems were caused by drought and part of the site was watered by the school pupils. The agriculture teacher, Mrs Kesia Runyoro, was already hosting an FAO fertiliser trial with maize.

Evaluation visit

An inspection was made on 30.11.89, 8 months after planting. The site was in good condition; 1 or 2 = sucker numbers; S = stunted; M = missing. A further 3 g a.i. of carbofuran had been applied to C2 and FC2 but the officer responsible was not present.
