Pheidole corticicola Santschi

return to key {link to the Hymenoptera Name Server} Type location Congo (Pheidole minima Mayr stirps corticicola, n. st., Santschi, 1910c: 366, all forms; raised to species by Santschi, 1937d: 219) from Brazzaville, by Weiss; all forms described (see Bolton, 1995) .

Santschi's (1910c) description is at {original description}.

Wheeler (1922, as the minima stirps) gave the two Congo locations in Santschi (1910c).

Bernard (1952) ascribed a single dealated queen (TL 4 mm) from Guinea, Ziéla savanna (Lamotte) as probably of this species; and noted that the species was common from Banco, Ivory Coast.

{Pheidole corticicola major}The photomontage is of a major from Cameroun; Awae II; collector A Fotso Kuate (fk pheidole sp7).

Exactly matches Santschi's (1910c) description, perhaps slightly larger.

{Pheidole corticicola minor}The photomontage is of a minor worker from Cameroun; Boga; 3°53'60"N 10°46'60"E; lowland area elevation <250m; quadrat in forest; 18.ix.2007 (fk pheidole sp9); coll. A Fotso Kuate.

{Pheidole corticicola}The photomontages are of minor specimens from Congo, Brazzaville, pitfall trapped by Yves Braet & Eric Zassi, 2007. These appear to be a close match to the Santschi description.

{Pheidole corticicola}

{Pheidole corticicola minor}The photomontage of a minor worker is collated from http://www.antweb.org/specimen.do?name=casent0901313. There it is mistakenly titled as Pheidole neokohli, but that is known only from male and queen descriptions.
