Mayr's (1901b) description is at .
Wheeler (1922) reported a single major from Medje, Zaïre
(Lang and Chapin), without further data, which agrees very closely with
Mayr's description of this species. Also Pheidole kohli Mayr,
variety - A single imperfect major and five females, three of them
winged, taken from the stomachs of a toad (Bufo regularis) and a
frog (Rana ornatissima) from Garamba, (Lang and Chapin), appear
to represent an undescribed variety or subspecies of kohli, the
major being darker and having a distinctly narrower head. The pedicel,
gaster and funiculi are, however, lacking in the single specimen of the
major. It seems to be undesirable to base a new name on such defective
material.
