(Sima bifoveolata nov. spec., Mayr, 1895: 146, worker; in Tetraponera,
Wheeler, 1922: 796; Menozzi, 1926a: 37, queen) collected at Delagoa
Bay, by Dr Brauns
worker & queen only described (see Bolton, 1995) .
I have raised subspecies Tetraponera
maculifrons from Djibouti (stirps of foveolata,
Santschi, 1912b: 162, worker), with variety syriaca (Wheeler
& Mann, 1916, 167, worker) from Egypt, Sinai, by W M Mann,
to species status.

Mayr (1895) also noted its collection at Zanzibar, Tanzania.
Menozzi (1926a) reported the queen from Somalia, at El Bar El
