Emery (1891b) noted specimens from Assab, Eritrea among those in his first description of the species. Forel (1910c) reported a worker from Western Ethiopia, collected by A Ilg. Viehmeyer (1923) reported specimens from Sudan, at Port Sudan, collected by H Werner & R Ebner .

Menozzi (1933b: 97) had Egypt, Sinai and Palestine. His full notes, including extracts from his key, is at {original description}.

Iran Form - Crawley (1920: 178) noted a single worker from "Mesopotamia" or "North-West Persia" that was "probably var. oasium or possibly var. fellah but impossible to determine without a major worker". Pisarski's report was of specimens from Baghdad, 4 workers and 2 males, from palm groves and waste land on the edges of the Tigris River. See the bottom of the page for fresh specimens and collection details.
