Genus Brachymyrmex Mayr (1868b: 163)

In Tribe BRACHYMYRMECINI.

Diagnostic Features - Antennae 9-segmented, first segemnt of funiculus longer than those following but second onwards getting progressively longer; palp formula 6,4. Eyes situated well away from the lateral margins of the head; ocelli well below occipital margin.

Revised by Snelling (1979b), previously in Tribe MYRMELACHISTINI. Bolton (1973a) described them as small arboreal ants.

Species known from Africa - Brachymyrmex sp undet.
