In this photograph taken just off the main Manikganj-Aricha road, not only is a damp field seen ready for the winter crop but a tube well is under the roof close to the road.

Where a permanent river was close by methods such as the "dohn" (swinging bucket shown here) were used to lift water into the fields. Seen here in Pabna District, 5 February 1983.

Given sufficient residual moisture or irrigation a wide range of temperate vegetables and pulses grow well in the clear sunlight of the Bangladesh winter. This selection was photographed in early February 1983 just south-west of Manikganj town, Dhaka District.
