Santschi (1909c) grouped many of the following by a the major
characteristic of having a petiole with a long pedicel and a node that
is rounded or lightly flattened. In most cases the species also are
notably longer than those with an angular profile to the petiole, many
with a sharp crest. The heads generally are elongated and all have
12-segmented antennae. The geographical distribution is primarily
circum-Mediterranean, plus Western Morocco and the Canary Islands.
