WORKER - TL 4.1 mm; colour black, head and gaster sometimes lighter; closely related to tabarum, with it the only African members of the tortuosum group; separated from Tetramorium tabarum by having striate mandibles, smaller eyes (0.23 HW), long low petiole node, sculptured pedicel, and blackish (Bolton, 1980).
