Hypoponera muscicola (Weber)

return to key {link to the Hymenoptera Name Server} Type location South Sudan (Ponera muscicola, sp. nov., Weber, 1942: 45, illustrated, queen) from Mount Imatong, collected by the author; queen only described (new combination in Hypoponera, in Bolton, 1995) .

Bolton & Fisher (2011: 43) place it as a junior synonym of Hypoponera dulcis; however, they refer to queens and males without offering any descriptions.

QUEEN (after Bernard, 1952) - TL 3.2 mm; colour brown; scape short, not surpassing the occiput; mandibles with 9-10 irregular teeth, clypeus with an angled anterior margin.

In Bernard's (1952) key to species from West Africa, but no details given other than the note "(queens) des Monts Imatong".
