Oecophylla rufescens Santschi new status
Type
location - Congo (63. - Oecophylla
longinoda LATR. v. rufescens n. var., Santschi, 1928f,
worker and queen) collected at Brazzaville, by A. Weiss, worker &
queen types; also from Cameroun, Molundu; Zaïre, Dungu,
by Hutereau, and Yambata, by DiGiorgi - no images on Antweb (October 2014).
Santschi's (1928f) description is at . A dark form but with mandibles brown
rather than black as in fusca and funiculi wholly brown, rather
than with a light area as in annectens. Santschi noted how a
queen of Crematogaster
stadelmanni was found with the Oecophylla and remarked
on the apparent mimicry of form This is certainly true of the queen
below and the Cr. stadelmanni queen on the linked page.
Colour red-brown, brown-rust to darker, mandibles brown,
scape concolourous
