Oligomyrmex (Aeromyrma) hewitti Santschi - revived status

Major - return to key Minor - return to key {link to the Hymenoptera Name Server} Type location South Africa (Oligomyrmex (Aeromyrma) Hewitti n. sp., Santschi, 1919a: 341, illustrated, major & minor; synonymy Arnold, 1926: 236) Grahamstown, Cape Province, Hewitt - see below
Major & minor described (see Bolton, 1995) .

{Oligomyrmex hewitti}Santschi's (1919a) description is at {original description}. Arnold (1926: 236) gave a translation of the major and synonymized hewitti with semilaevis, this is at {original description} and followed the thinking of Emery (1915c: 59). From the type images that clearly was wrong and hewitti strongly resembles Oligomyrmex debilis in form and sculpturation of both major and minor workers.

Oilgomyrmex hewittiThe photomontage is of the type major worker collated from http://www.antweb.org/specimen.do?name=0913520

The shape and proportions closely match those of Santschi's (1919a) drawing.
