In comparison with the generally tidy and neatly spaced cocoa of, for instance, the E5/1 block, the large Block at Onipe 1/1 had many forest trees, areas where the cocoa plantings had died, dead wood on the ground and general untidiness. This led to a much greater variety of niches and so, a greater range of ant species within the mosaic.
