The photomontage of
the holotype worker is
collated from http://www.antweb.org/specimen.do?name=casent0907696
Note: There it is classified as Aphaenogaster
smythiesii but, although possibly correct, there is no modern
revision to support that placement.
The reference given on Antweb as Emery (1921c: 59)
[Bolton 1995 Catalogue: Emery, 1921f] is for Stenamma

show a worker, from Mazandaran, Iran that is titled "Aphaenogaster kurdica"
and appears similar if not identical to the one I show here. It is not
a type specimen and Antweb does not have type images. The type
description for Aphaenogaster
subterranea var. kurdica
is in Russian (Ruzky, 1905b: 717). Emery (1908d: 332) had it as a
junior synonym of A. smythiesii.
Arnol'di (1948a: ) listed it as "A.
(A.) kurdica" without giving any justification.
