Polyrhachis dziodzio new species

Polyrhachis dziodzio new species

return to key {link to the Hymenoptera Name Server} Type location Congo, holotype worker only.

WORKER - TL ca 5.3 mm HW 1.40, HL 1.48, CI 94, SL 1.40, SI 100, PW 1.1
Compares with Polyrhachis asomaningi but overall with much less dense but more erect pilosity; head with flatter occiput in full face view, lateral angles near square; eyes more shallowly convex; seen from above the pronotal margin widens from the promesonotal suture forwards in a straight line; promesonotal suture well defined; propodeum from above with arcuate sides (straight in asomaningi); propodeal spines longer; median spines on petiole much broader based; head and alitrunk sculpturation much finer and more regular, also distinctly longitudinally striate on the alitrunk dorsum; gaster much smoother and shinier; only extreme tip of funiculus lighter, rest black.
In addition to images of the holotype asomaningi, the Antweb collection of photographs has a specimen from the Central African Republic that matches the Bolton description of asomaningi in all aspects and is clearly quite different to this Congo specimen.

Following the Rigato (2016) key leads to - 35 .. 39 .. 41 .. 48 .. 49 .. asomaningi (scapes with numerous erect hairs) - no more information given.
