Type location Cameroun (Smithistruma terroni sp. n., Bolton, 1983: 299, illustrated, full-face view, worker), collected near Yaoundé by G. Terron; holotype worker and 4 paratype workers only - no images on Antweb (February 2015) .

WORKER - TL 2.5-2.6 mm; uniquely shaped mandible, with a large diastema (space) between mandibles when closed, and curious arrangement of small teeth with a mid-line large seventh tooth; colour black.
