Roger's
(1862b) description is at .
Emery's (1908g) description is at . Radchenko's (1997b) description is at . Bolton (1987: 320), had it as a single
species in the Palaearctic region around the eastern Mediterranean.
Radchenko (1997b: ) placed M.
dentigerum and M. evansi
in a dentigerum-group
excluded from the scabriceps-group,
both being monomorphic unlike the latter group members, e.g. Trichomyrmex abyssinicus. Both
also have elongated eyes and circular spiracles. The type images,
however, suggest that, as Radchenko thought, M. evansi is almost
identical (see https://www.antweb.org/specimenImages.do?code=casent0902181),
if not identical to dentigerum.
