The deepwater rice farmer's year - 4 - the flood arrives

The waters near thigh height - fields at Chorniloki, 5 June 1982. The hedge is of "dhainchia" to keep out water hyacinth.

Near by farmers are harvesting the spring "aus" rice crop - a short duration spring rice, low yielding but vital food for the months before the main "aman" harvest.


A varietal trial shows differences in growth. A field of jute stands up in the distance.

Deeper still at an agronomy trial, note the plots testing transplantation of DWR.


Stem sampling now has become a very wet business.

Travel by boat has become essential, "roadways" appear across the beels.
