Notes

1. "Specific Name" in some cases refers to the appearance of the name, or epithet, as applied to a subspecies, variety, strips or other junior status. The names are not necessarily reported in connection with Egypt.
2. "Current Status", the term junior synonym includes those listed by Bolton (1995) as "unavailable name" (usually originally given as varieties of subspecies, i.e. a trinomial status not recognised as valid by all taxonomists).
3. Camponotus (Tanaemyrmex) maculatus sensu lato has a vast number of subspecies and junior synonyms; however, as none have been reported from Egypt, they are not included here but are listed under the species at Camponotus (Tanaemyrmex) maculatus.
4. Lepisiota (or as Acantholepis) frauenfeldi and semenovi are very confused, with many varieties, subspecies, stirps, etc.; few of these are from Egypt and so can be searched for on the Lepisiota analysis page.
5. Messor structor has a vast number of subspecies and junior synonyms; however, as only the type form has been reported from Egypt, and even then as an "import"; they are not included here but are listed under the species at Messor structor.
6. Pheidole megacephala sensu lato has many subspecies and junior synonyms; however, only one Formica edax has been reported from Egypt, the others are not included here but are listed under the species at Pheidole megacephala.
7. Pheidole pallidula has many subspecies and junior synonyms; however, only one recticeps has been reported from Egypt, the others are not included here but are listed under the species at Pheidole pallidula.
8. Tapinoma erraticum has many subspecies and junior synonyms; however, only one (Formica) nigerrima has been reported from Egypt, the others are not included here but are listed under the species at Tapinoma erraticum.
9. Tetramorium (Triglyphothrix) lanuginosum has numerous junior synonyms; however, only none have been reported from Egypt, the others are not included here but are listed under the species at Tetramorium (Triglyphothrix) lanuginosum.
